We, at GD Goenka High School, fully understand and appreciate the importance of activities - both co-curricular and sports, other than academics, in shaping the future of our students. The importance given to activities is designed to help our students in building character and resilience. The participation in activities will help them in making friends all over the world, which will prove to be very useful for them in their careers.
Through the year, the school calendar is so designed that it will be packed with activities and sports where students with varying talents participate, hone their talents to excel in competitions and participate in events organised inside and outside the school. The activities and sports offered by the school are as under:
Implemented during school hours, these activities will enable the students to enrich their learning in school by exploring and utilising their interests, skills and talents in fields other than textbooks. The focus of these activities ranges from exploring new skills to mastering the same over a period of time. Students have the privilege to choose from the following range of activities:
There are well designed studios for various activities , where students can hone their skills and optimize their potential.
THE INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR YOUNG PEOPLE (IAYP): IAYP was first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1956 as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The Award's concept is one of individual challenge, giving young people a balanced, non-competitive programme of voluntary activities, which encourage personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility to themselves and service to their community.
INTERACT CLUB: Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people. Interact gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects. Along the way, Interactors develop their leadership skills and initiative while meeting new friends. Some of the social outreach programmes conducted are blood donation camps, books/stationery donation drive, clothes for underprivileged children drive, tree plantation drive, first aid boxes donation drives etc.
We hope to carry out various humanitarian services such as aiding flood relief through donations- monetary and in kind, raising awareness against social ills through street plays, initiating cleanliness drive and so on.
GO GREEN: With this idea in mind, students, guided by teachers, will be taking up various projects like rain water harvesting and paper recycling. Not only will there be a theoretical understanding of what these projects mean, but also a practical outcome to their learning through field visits, surveys and hands-on experiences. This collaborative ‘learning by doing’, one of the salient features of the CBSE curriculum, will help sharpen students’ awareness of not only the local community but also the world at large.
